INTERVIEW PREPRATIONS

BN OVERSEASconducts substantial research into how employers decide on hiring one person over another. Although the interview itself is an incredibly complex interaction, we have found that there are simple things you can do that make a big difference .

There are two basic question formats: directive and open-ended.

BN OVERSEAS also prepares its clients according to their prospective requirements of the different segments whether they have to be prepared for the corporate world or for global education (study abroad) or to join their better half in any part of the world.

The interview is the most important 30-60 minutes in the job search. A great deal is at stake, yet the research indicates that most people are not well-prepared for the interview process.

This lack of preparation can be good news for you, because visiting this site can help you substantially improve your interviewing skills, thereby giving you an advantage over the majority of job seekers. We have observed many employers who are willing to hire people who present themselves well in an interview over others with superior credentials.

Directive questions typically verify or clarify information. Most of these questions can be answered in 1-2 sentences. Open-ended questions are used to expand previous answers, and take more time.

JOB RELATED INTERVIEW PREPARATION

The biggest mistake in interviewing is not being fully prepared. It behooves job-seekers to use every conceivable means possible to prepare for the interview and to allow ample time to fully prepare. Understand that interviewing is a skill; as with all skills, preparation and practice enhance the quality of that skill. Preparation can make the difference between getting an offer and getting rejected.

Initial preparation requires recent assessment of skills, interests, values, and accomplishments; a re-assessment and updating of one’s resume; and research on the targeted company/organization and position. Preparation also includes actual practice of typical and targeted interview questions. Final preparation includes details of dress and appearance, knowledge of the location of the interview, what to expect, and protocols for follow-up.

STUDENTS RELATED INTERVIEW PREPARATION:

Interviews by Institutes abroad are very rare and are usually limited to some business schools. You most probably will not have to go through one. But, just to let you know, Wharton visits Delhi, Bombay and some other cities every year to interview applicants. Some schools conduct interviews telephonically and some others through their alumni who are based in the city you live in. If you happen to be applying to an institute that wants to interview, you ought to be prepared.

a): Undergraduate Education

Remember your interviewers are from the academia, so give adequate importance to learning and education. Show your commitment to learning and growing. Talk about your extracurricular activities and how these activities helped build your well-rounded personality. Detail your contribution as well as what you learnt. Describe how your schooling will help you in achieving your career goals. Describe any leadership experiences and what you learnt from those experiences.

b) Work Experience :

Be enthusiastic about your job experience. Portray yourself as one who tries to exceed expectations. Stress on teamwork, motivation, continuous learning and ownership. Be positive when talking about your boss or your firm. If you changed jobs, it should have been motivated by a desire for more challenges, more responsibilities, and opportunity to grow and so on. Avoid negative comments like unappreciated, underpaid etc. Don’t be afraid to talk about a failure. Stress on what you learnt from your failure. Describe your leadership experiences at work. Leadership potential is a very important quality desired by all MBA programs.

c) Goals :

Show that you are committed to your career objectives. Your goals should be consistent with your experience and your desire to pursue further education. Be practical where you see yourself in five years ( refrain from making a statement like “I will be the CEO of Hewlett-Packard”) and be prepared to demonstrate how advanced training and education will help you achieve your goals. Highlight some of the strengths of the program to further justify your choice. Make sure that all your answers connect and reflect the thought you have put in planning for your future.

d) Personal :

Be sure to prepare a brief outline of your upbringing. Take every opportunity to show that you are achievement oriented and strive to develop both personally and professionally. At the same time, show yourself to be a well-balanced and sensible person with varied interests. In your choice of books, it does not matter whether it is science fiction or biographies: the idea is to show yourself as knowledgeable in whatever interests you pursue.

SPOUSE RELATED INTERVIEW PREPARATION :

British Tutorials keep in mind how important relations are and when it comes to one’s better half it is always kept in mind that when Spouse is interviewed each and every aspect of his / her spouse is covered so that he / she is prepared to face the honorable High Commission’s Entry Clearance Officer with an ease rather than in a tense state of mind.

There is no one “best” way to prepare for an interview. Rather, there are specific and important strategies to enhance one’s chances for interview success. Every interview is a learning experience, so learning that takes place during the preparation and actual interview process is useful for future interviews.
